Sony manages to dislodge Colors from No. 2 position

Just after dislodging Zee TV from its No. 3 spot last week, Sony has now dashed ahead of the long-standing No. 2 Hindi GEC Colors, for the week ended August 20, 2011.

The GRP battle for entry into the top bracket is getting progressively interesting, week after week. Just after dislodging Zee TV from its No. 3 spot last week, Sony has now overtaken Colors, the long-standing No. 2 Hindi GEC, for the week ended August 20, 2011.

Riding on the back of its biggest reality show, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the channel has scored 245 GRPs, thus adding 50 extra points to its kitty as compared to the previous week (Week 33). The channel's relative share has also moved up from 16.1 per cent in Week 33, to 19 per cent in Week 34 (TAM, C&S 4+, HSM).

While KBC, the leading show for the week with a TVR of 5.4, brings in this major boost for the channel, its fiction property, Bade Achche Lagte Hai, and its flagship investigative show C.I.D. continue to drive the channel forward. Bade Achche Lagte Hai is the sixth-most watched property on television, and leads the 10.30 pm slot with 3.92 TVR. Meanwhile, C.I.D. is the tenth-most watched property on the channel, with a TVR of 3.6.

Sony is aggressively eyeing a consistent spot in the top-three bracket by the year-end, and will be adding more shows to its line-up in the next one month. The channel has already started running promos of Kuch To Log Kahenge, a fiction, and another non-fiction property, Prayaschit -- Gunaho Ke Jakhm (both from Rajan Shahi), with Tisca Chopra as the host. Both shows are expected to go on air within the next one month.

Kuch To Log Kahenge talks about a budding love relationship between a senior doctor and a bubbly young girl-intern. Prayaschit, meanwhile, has a unique concept, wherein participants on the show, will apologise for mistakes committed by them, and to those who have suffered due to their misconduct.
