Bodyguard beats Singham with a TVR of 10 on STAR Gold

The premiere of the Salman-Khan starrer has earmarked the biggest television premiere on a Hindi movie channel, even ahead of Singham, which had scored 8.7 TVR.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan's charisma works just as well with television audiences. This is evident from the fact that the premiere of the Salman Khan-starrer Bodyguard earmarked the biggest television premiere on a Hindi movie channel, even ahead of Singham, which had scored a premiere TVR of 8.7. Bodyguard has scored a TVR of 10 (TAM C&S, 4+, HSM) during its premiere on November 12, and has helped the channel add 67 GRPs to its pocket as it ended the week with 226 GRPs in its kitty.

An approximate 124 million viewers reportedly tuned in to watch the movie, wherein 38 per cent were males (15+ years); about 35 per cent were females (15+ years), and 26 per cent were kids (4-14 years).

According to STAR Gold, the markets which contributed the highest for Bodyguard were Mumbai (with 15 per cent), Delhi (with 14 per cent) and Uttar Pradesh (with 10 per cent).

Meanwhile, as far as the Hindi general entertainment channels are concerned, Bodyguard stood behind 3 Idiots, which had clocked a 10.9 TVR on Sony Entertainment, but it moved ahead of Khan's previous release Dabangg, which had clocked 9.2 TVR on Colors.

Speaking to afaqs!, Hemal Jhaveri, general manager, STAR Gold, says, "There is much more in store for our viewers this year, with the strong line-up of new titles such as Ra.One, Rockstar and Force."

Jhaveri notes that the strong decisions taken by the channel earlier this year and in 2010, have begun to pay dividends. The channel's market share has improved by as much as 50 per cent. With more premieres lined up, Jhaveri expects the channel to sustain its current viewership, and eventually grow in the coming months.
