Malayala Manorama goes in for a re-design

The Malayalam daily has been re-designed after a gap of seven years.

Soon after Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd (BCCL) decided to set foot in Kerala on February 1, Malayala Manorama has toughened up. After a gap of seven long years, it has been re-designed once again. For the record, the daily was last re-designed in 2005, and it was done by the Cuban born US designer Mario Garcia.

This time, however, the new look of Malayala Manorama has been designed by the Spanish design journalist Javier Errea and his team from Errea Comunicacion.

The new design went live on Sunday, February 5, and looks at restructured pages with more white space, wherein the navigation has been tuned and a new colour palette has been introduced.

When quizzed on how Malayala Manorama plans to market and promote the new look, Jose Panachipuram, associate editor, Malayala Manorama, says, "We are not promoting the new design just for the sake of design. It's the contents and their quality that promotes a newspaper. The re-design adds value to the time-tested quality of Malayala Manorama, and the paper gets promoted by itself."

Panachipuram further adds, "Manorama is a newspaper that always believes in change. And, that is why, we go for re-design at regular intervals. Our readers, too, welcome this kind of change," he adds.

Panachipuram further informs that even though the daily has not added any new sections to the paper, each section has been revamped with reader-friendly content and presentation. The Sunday magazine and other feature pages have also undergone thorough changes, wherein the entire visual approach has been redefined.

It is pertinent to note here that, BCCL, in collaboration with Kerala's No. 2 Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi, launched its flagship English daily The Times of India in Kerala.
