Goafest 2012: Ogilvy India and DDB Mudra Group lead Creative ABBYs shortlists

Ogilvy India and DDB Mudra Group, with 132 and 117 entries respectively, lead the list of shortlists, followed by Leo Burnett India with 93 entries and Taproot India with 84.

The carnival might as well have begun in Goa as The Advertising Club Bombay released the Creative ABBYs shortlists for Goafest 2012. It is little surprise as one scans through the categories - Ambient, Design, Direct, Film Craft, Film, Integrated, Digital and Mobile, Out of Home, Print Craft, Print and Radio and Radio Craft - to find Ogilvy India leading the pack with 132 shortlisted entries across categories, followed by the DDB Mudra Group with 117 shortlists, Leo Burnett India with 93 and Taproot India with 84 entries.

Among other agencies with significant shortlists are Contract Advertising, Grey India, ideas@work, JWT India and TBWAIndia.

With the festival including work from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal too, for the first time, Leo Burnett Solutions Inc, Publicis Solutions, Grant McCann Erickson, Sarva Integrated and Phoenix Ogilvy from Sri Lanka have made their presence felt with a few shortlisted entries.

The Ambient category with the least number of shortlists at eight entries includes Ogilvy India with three entries, Contract Advertising with two, and Leo Burnett Solutions Inc and DDB Mudra with one each. Ogilvy's shortlists include the Chanting Lighter campaign for Cancer Patients Aid Association, The Candy Tree for Perfetti Van Melle India and the Vodafone Santa Zoozoo Mall activation. Contract's work for Vladivar and Cadbury Celebrations helped the agency with a couple of shortlists in this category.

In the Design category with 100 shortlisted entries, once again Ogilvy India has the maximum shortlists with 22 entries. Among the entries are the agency's works for its clients such as Vodafone, Mentos, Pond's and MTR Foods. DDB Mudra Group has 13 shortlists in the category, which include its work for Sanctuary Asia, Lass Natural Cosmetics, Steadfast Shredders and Coffee Gold, among others.

Other agencies with sizeable shortlists in the category include Leo Burnett India (10 entries), BBDO India (nine entries), Alok Nanda and Company (eight entries), Open Strategy & Design (four entries), and Out of the Box (five entries).

Sri Lanka's Grant McCann Erickson has secured three shortlists in the design category.

The Direct category with 46 shortlists features Taproot India, leading with 11 entries. The agency's work for The Times of India alone helped it bag six shortlists. Other entries include work for Airtel, Pepsi, Getty Images, DSP BlackRock and Save Our Sisters.

DDB Mudra with seven shortlists and Ogilvy India and BBDO India with six each, respectively are among the other significant mentions in this category. Among other agencies are Leo Burnett India (three entries), and M&C Saatchi-i, Creativeland Asia and JWT India with two entries each.

The Film Craft category features 71 shortlisted entries. Footcandles Films leads the pack with 18 shortlists. The production house has bagged its shortlists for its work for VIP Sky Bags (Bear), Flipkart.com, Times of India (Wake Up Chennai), Cadbury Dairy Milk, Imperial Blue (Anniversary) and Airtel, among others.

Corcoise Films has seven shortlists in the category, followed by Curious Films with six and Nomad Films, Hello Robot Productions and Equinox Films with four each. Among others are the usual players such as Rising Sun Films, Good Morning Films and Nirvana Films.

Ogilvy India once again has the most shortlisted entries in the Film category with 31 entries. Among its shortlisted films include ones for Cadbury, Vodafone, Ceat, Tata Sky, ICC World Cup 2011, Imperial Blue, Amaron Batteries and Bajaj Pulsar.

JWT India has 15 shortlists in the Film category that include its work for Nokia, Apollo Munich Health Insurance and Horlicks, among others. Taproot's much talked about work for Airtel and Pepsi, besides its films for Times of India and Mumbai Mirror, helped the agency with 13 shortlists in the category.

Among other mentions in the Film category are DDB Mudra Group with seven entries, Contract Advertising with six entries, Draftfcb Ulka with five entries and BBH India, Leo Burnett India and Happy Creative Services with three entries each. Leo Burnett Solutions Inc and Sarva Integrated from Sri Lanka have two entries shortlisted in this category.

The Integrated category has 31 shortlists, with Ogilvy India and Taproot leading with five entries each. Ogilvy's entries include its campaigns for Vodafone, Tata Sky, ICC World Cup 2011, Fox Crime and Cadbury. Taproot's entries include Pepsi's Change the Game campaign, Airtel's Har Ek Friend Zaroori Hota Hai campaign, Mumbai Mirror's Seven Wonders of the City and Times of India's Wake Up Chennai and A Day In the Life of India campaigns.

Among other agencies in this category are Creativeland Asia (four entries); Contract Advertising, DDB Mudra Group and Leo Burnett India (three entries each); and JWT India and BBDO India (two entries each).

In the Digital and Mobile category, Maxus India has the most shortlists, with 11 entries followed by Grey India, Ogilvy India and WebChutney with eight each. Interestingly, all of Grey's shortlists include the agency's work for Volkswagen India, including the much popular Anything4Jetta campaign.

The Out of Home category is one with over 100 shortlists and 120 entries. Ogilvy India has 22 shortlists followed by Leo Burnett India with 21, Taproot India with 14 and JWT and BBDO India with nine each, among others. Sri Lanka's Phoenix Ogilvy and Publicis Solutions too feature in the list, with six and four shortlists each.

Print Craft is yet another crowded category with 139 shortlists. Herein, DDB Mudra Group's entries feature the most with 32 shortlists. The agency's shortlists include work for brands such as Steadfast Shredders, Cycle Agarbatti, Rotaract Club, Volkswagen India and Lonely Planet Magazine, among others.

ideas@work makes its presence felt in this category with 23 shortlists. Other significant mentions include Taproot India (19 entries), Leo Burnett India (18 entries) and Ogilvy India (10 entries).

The Print category is the one with the most shortlists at over 150 entries. Like Print Craft, DDB Mudra Group in this category, too, features the highest number of times with 39 entries. Taproot India has 19 shortlisted entries, Leo Burnett India has 18 entries, ideas@work has 15 entries while Ogilvy India has 12.

In the Radio category, Leo Burnett has 16 shortlists that include the agency's work for Complan, Reliance Digital TV and Uninor, among others. Ogilvy India has 13 shortlisted entries, Grey India and JWT India have five each, while Contract Advertising, DDB Mudra Group and BBDO India have four each. Taproot India has two shortlists in the category, while Alok Nanda and Company has one.

The final category of Radio Craft has 11 shortlists that include Lingo India's six, JWT India's four and Side Show Films' one.

The winning ABBYs will be handed out to the agencies on April 20 and April 21 in Goa, where the fraternity is currently gathered at the Zuri White Sands for the three-day festival.
