Asianet to launch Malayalam movie channel on July 15

Christened Asianet Movies, it will be the first movie channel in Malayalam.

Come July 15, STAR-owned Asianet Communications will launch Asianet Movies, the first satellite movie channel in the Malayalam television space.

Asianet Movies will be a free-to-air channel and will be available in India and the Gulf simultaneously.

In Kerala, the channel will be available through all major cable TV operators including ACV, COA and other DTH platforms. The channel will be headed by Sajju David, programming head, non-fiction, Asianet.

The content mix of the channel will include super hit titles, classic movies and old movies, in addition to the most recent films. The channel will also craft movie-based programming such as star chats and film gossip. Interestingly, apart from Malayalam, the channel will also air movies in Tamil and Hindi.

For the record, Asianet Communications Limited (ACL) is a joint venture between the News Corporation-owned STAR TV/Fox International Channels and Jupiter Entertainment Ventures. The company owns and runs Asianet, the first privately-owned television channel in Malayalam and the second to broadcast in the language.
