Nitin Vaidya calls it quits at STAR India

Vaidya joined STAR in May 2011, heading the network's Hindi channels.

Nitin Vaidya, business head, STAR India has called it a day at the network. Vaidya, who joined STAR in May 2011, is understood to have put in his papers on Friday.

Senior sources close to the development have confirmed the news to afaqs!.

At STAR, Vaidya headed the Hindi channels of the network - Star Plus, STAR Utsav, STAR Gold and STAR One (now revamped as Life OK). Vaidya joined STAR after a 10-year stint at Zee, where he last worked as chief operating officer, national channels at Zee Entertainment, and business head at Zee TV.

Being in the business for about 24 years, Vaidya began his career in media as a reporter with the Sakal Group. He grew up the ranks to become the chief executive at the state and national levels.

While at Zee, Vaidya led the company's foray into the regional space. During his tenure, the Zee Group launched Zee Marathi, Zee Bangla and Zee Talkies. He also set up the film production and distribution business in Marathi.

From being director of the regional channels of the Zee Group, he was promoted to the position of COO as a part of a restructuring at Zee in 2008. He then took charge of Zee's national channels that included Zee TV, Smile, Next, Zee Cinema, Jagran, Zee Muzic and Cafe Trendz.
