GEC Watch: Sony climbs to third position as Colors falls

Colors, the general entertainment channel from Viacom18, lost 35 points, while Sony lost 11 points.

The Hindi GECs have taken a minor hit in ratings courtesy Pepsi IPL, the annual cricket tournament that started on April 3 (Week 14 calculated viewership from March, 31 to April, 6). All the Hindi GECs witnessed a drop in their GRPs in the current week.

Star Plus, still ruling the roost, has lost seven points, garnering 185 GRPs in the current week, down from 207 points in the last week.

Zee TV, too, is stable at its No. 2 position with 185 GRPs, down from last week's 207 GRPs.

Sony has climbed up to the third position, owing to a drastic fall in Colors' viewership numbers. Sony, despite losing 11 points, has clocked 164 GRPs (eight points above Colors).

Colors has lost 35 GRPs, the highest loss in the genre, garnering 156 points in Week 14. It may be recalled that Indiacast (the content aggregator of Network18 channels) was experiencing a rough patch in its relationship with the MSO giant, Hathway Cable and Datacom. This could also have contributed to Colors' loss.

SAB TV, Sony's sibling GEC, has stayed at its No. 5 rank witnessing a drop of 22 GRPs, thus clocking 137 points, down from Week 13's 159 points. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, the channel's flagship show, has been featuring on the Top 10 list for a couple of months now.

At No. 6, Life OK, STAR's second GEC, has scored 110 GRPs, down from last week's 119 GRPs. Last in the list are STAR Utsav with 45 GRPs (51 GRPs last week) and Sahara One with 18 GRPs (22 GRPs last week).
