Comedy Nights on fire

Following a blaze that brought down the set of the show on Wednesday morning, Comedy Nights with Kapil will still be on-air without a break. The two episodes for the coming weekend, September 28 and 29, are already shot and ready for telecast.

One of the surprise super hits of the recent months, Comedy Nights with Kapil, is currently dealing with a crisis. The control room of its set, located in Film City, Goregaon (east), caught fire at around 8:50 am on September 25. The first one to report it was actor Sonakshi Sinha through her Twitter update as she was shooting on the set right next to that of Comedy Nights.

However, the audience will not be deprived of their weekly dose of laughter, say sources from Colors. The episodes scheduled for Saturday, September 28 (with Soha Ali Khan and Javed Jaffrey) and Sunday, September 29 (with Sunidhi Chauhan) have already been shot, confirms the channel. It is learnt that Sonu Nigam was to shoot for the next week's episode of the show at 2 pm on the day of the mishap.

The show has been a hub of film promotions lately. Many Bollywood stars including Shahrukh Khan (twice for Chennai Express), Dharmendra (Yamla Pagla Deewana), Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi (Ghanchakkar), Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi (Grand Masti) and Ajay Devgn and Prakash Jha (Satyagraha) have visited the set and become a part of the show. It has also hosted guests like Juhi Chawla, Mika Singh and Anu Malik, without any promotional activity.

While the channel has said that it will look at creating a new set, it has only two episodes in its bank and the new set could take some time. The team may, however, hire a new set for a few upcoming shoots. Speaking on the possible effects on the popularity of the show, the producers say that the characters are the stars of the show, and losing the set will not have an impact on its popularity.

A Colors spokesperson says, "It is unfortunate that such an incident has occurred on the sets of Comedy Nights with Kapil. There have been no casualties and we are currently in the process of accessing the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, we are focusing all our efforts to resume shooting for the show so that we have no disruption and we don't disappoint our loyal viewers."

It is learnt that Colors will approach Nigam again once the new place of shoot is decided.

In July, Zee TV's fiction show Housewife Hai Sab Janti Hai also lost its set to fire, though no casualties were reported.
