C K Harish Kumar, erstwhile vice president, sales and marketing, Public TV has been promoted as chief operating officer in the channel. He will be responsible for driving sales and marketing initiatives, along with strategy planning and spearheading the team pan-India, and paving the roadmap for the overall business. Kumarjoined Public TV in 2012 as vice-president, sales and marketing.
Kumar will report to H R Ranganath, chairman and managing director. Ranganath adds that Kumar has been the force behind Public TV that has made it one of the most influential and emerging news channels in Karnataka. "He comes with rich experience in developing news channels and has good understanding on regional and national markets," he adds.
Kumar has about two decades of experience in the media business. He started working in 1989 as a trainer in Gajanand Institute. He moved to Getit Yellow Pages in 1993, which was his entry into the media business.
Kumar says, "This is a great opportunity to enhance the trust and I will work to deliver the objectives of the management. On the marketing front, we will strive to capture the moods of the advertiser and expand the company's geographic reach."
From Yellow Pages, he moved on to join the ABP Group, taking care of the Bengaluru business. His next step was at Navbharat, where he was business manager for the South market. These were followed by Deccan Herald and Prajavani group and finally, he joined Suvarna News as general manager in 2010. He left Suvarna News as associate vice-president to join Public TV.
