CNN-IBN's Karan Thapar to join Headlines Today

Thapar is joining the TV Today channel on April 1.

Ending his decade long association with Network18, noted news anchor Karan Thapar has quit popular English news channel CNN-IBN.

Thapar was the anchor of two shows, The Devil's Advocate and The Last Word, on CNN-IBN.

As per sources in the industry, he is joining Headlines Today on April 1.

Currently the president of Infotainment Television, Thapar is noted for his aggressive interviews with leading politicians and celebrities. His company has produced The Devil's Advocate (CNN-IBN) and the show India Tonight (CNBC TV18).

Some of his other popular shows include Eyewitness (Doordarshan), Tonight at 10 (CNBC), In Focus with Karan and Line of Fire.

A journalist with 33 years of experience, Thapar started working with Network18 in 2004 as a consultant. Sources claim he will now join Headlines Today on a contract basis and not as a consultant.

He started his career with The Times in Lagos, Nigeria, and later worked as the company's lead writer on the Indian subcontinent till 1981.

In 1982, Thapar joined London Weekend Television where he worked for around 11 years, before moving to India. In India, he worked with The Hindustan Times Television Group, Home TV and United Television before setting up his own production house, Infotainment Television, in August 2001.
