Popular TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati' has rocketed STAR Plus to the top-spot among all Hindi entertainment channels. If the data released by News Television is anything to go by, STAR Plus seems to have beaten the other contenders hands down in terms of prime-time viewership as well as all-day viewership.

According to AC Nielson / TAM People Meter data, the first and second runners-up spots in both prime-time viewing (8pm -11pm) as well as 24-hour viewing went to Sony and Zee, respectively. To be specific, the prime-time audience share of the three channels in the top nine cities stand at 15.7 per cent for STAR Plus, 6.8 per cent for Sony and 6.3 per cent for Zee. And the 24-hour channel share is 7.3 per cent for STAR Plus, 7.0 for Sony and 6.5 per cent for Zee.

STAR Plus is a part of the STAR TV network, which in turn is a subsidiary of The News Corporation Limited. The channel went 100 per cent Hindi barely three weeks back. Since then, the channel has ridden the wave of hysteria generated by its prime-time program ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati' and finally emerged as top dog.

Peter Mukerjea, CEO News Television (India) Ltd says, "Kaun Banega Crorepati is working in establishing STAR Plus as the people's choice for Hindi entertainment. The popularity of this one show has gone a long way in giving us (STAR Plus) the No.1 position in a matter of just three weeks."

‘Kaun Banega Crorepati' is the Indian version of the internationally popular game show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire'. STAR TV has purchased the license and rights of the original show to localize it for STAR Plus.
