About his promotion, Thakurta, says, "Earlier I was looking after circulation for the Asia region, which involved looking into the marketing efforts and the P&L side, among other aspects, for both print and digital. But now, this (chief strategy officer) is more of a global role that I am getting into."

Moreover, Guha will now be part of the general managing committee, which reports to Stibbs. The committee comprises global department heads of the group.

Guha has been with The Economist Group since 2007, when he started as associate publisher.
