Skoda's Kamal Basu joins Volkswagen as marketing head

Kamal Basu, the former marketing head of Skoda Auto India, has joined German auto major Volkswagen in the same capacity. Basu confirmed the development to afaqs!

He joined Skoda Auto India in 2011 and was overseeing product marketing, online lead management, dealer marketing, social and digital media. He also worked closely with sales, after-sales and network teams, to ensure efficient coordination and execution of marketing plans.

Basu spent the first two decades of his professional life in advertising, working with agencies such as RK Swamy BBDO, Chaitra (now Leo Burnett), Clarion (now Bates 141), Rediffusion Y&R, Ogilvy & Mather and Saatchi & Saatchi. Basu spent four years at Rediffusion before shifting to Ogilvy where he spent around eight years. His last designation held there was that of vice-president, client servicing. In 2000, he moved to Saatchi & Saatchi as executive vice-president, Mumbai. Later, in 2008, he was promoted to the post of chief executive officer.

Basu switched to brand marketing and joined Skoda Auto India in 2012. He holds a degree in marketing management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. Apart from advertising and marketing, he is passionate about cricket, Indian movies and travelling.
