'DD Free Dish' switches over to an upgraded platform

This move comes into effect from midnight of January 9.

Doordarshan's 'DD Free Dish', India's only Free Direct-To-Home Service is migrating from its old platform to a new upgraded platform. This comes into effect from the midnight of January 9, 2015 (12.05 A.M. of January 10, 2015).

According to the company, the migration will result in an increase in the number of TV channels from 59 to 64 and radio channels from 22 to 24. "To access the upgraded platform, the viewers need to edit the Transponder Parameter by changing only the Symbol Rate from 27500 KSPS (kilo samples per second) to 28500 KSPS in four transponders and retune/rescan their set top boxes (STB) to receive the upgraded channels. Freedish viewers can get further information regarding retuning/rescanning of their STBs on Doordarshan's official website," the company said in a release.

The company also announced that viewers and subscribers who do not rescan their STBs would get only 10 channels for a period of seven days from the date of upgradation. Of the 10, one channel is an informative channel and will show the detailed procedure for retuning the STBs.
