GEC Watch: Zee topples Colors to claim the second spot

The channel has seen significant growth in week 5 of TAM, courtesy the Indian television premiere of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Happy New Year' on January 26.

Zee TV, the general entertainment channel from Zee Entertainment Enterprises, has gained approximately 77397 GVTs, garnering 485396 GVTs in week 5 of TAM. The channel has toppled Viacom18's Hindi GEC Colors to claim the second spot.

Zee TV's big win in the week was a result of the Indian television premiere of Bollywood blockbuster, 'Happy New Year'. The movie, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, was aired on the channel on January 26.

Star Plus, despite loss in viewership, maintained its lead in the genre with 616431 GVTs. The channel had grossed 659015 GVTs in the previous week.

Colors, at a marginal distance from Zee TV, settled at No. 3 with 476976 GVTs, down from last week's 485008 GVTs. Star India and Multi Screen Media's second rung Hindi GECs, namely Life OK and Sab TV, concluded the week with 337642 GVTs (last week - 298833) and 294412 GVTs (last week - 304601), respectively.

The flagship channel of MSM, Sony Entertainment Television, came in next with 263082 GVTs. The channel had registered 237536 GVTs in the last week.

The free-to-air channels from Zee Network, Viacom18 and Star India, namely Zee Anmol, Rishtey and Star Utsav, ended the week with 95210 GVTs (last week - 96074), 73958 GVTs (last week - 79039) and 51262 GVTs (last week - 48073), respectively.

Next on the chart is Reliance Broadcast Network's flagship channel, Big Magic, which witnessed considerable loss in GVTs, settling with 41799 GVTs, as opposed to 48822GVTs in week 4 of TAM.

Zindagi garnered 18439 GVTs (last week - 18439), Sony Pal grossed 29159 GVTs (last week - 25595), Sahara One recorded 8467 GVTs (last week - 9360 GVTs) and Epic clocked 8057 GVTs (last week - 6958) in the week ending January 31.

A look at the shows

Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum, Yeh hai Mohabbatein and Saathiya Saath Nibhana were the three most watched shows in the genre with 10674 TVTs, 8595 TVTs and 8557 TVTs, respectively.

At No. 4 is Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya that clocked 8443 TVTs. It is followed by Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that ended the week with 8147 TVTs.

The sixth spot is occupied by Colors' Sasural Simar Ka that recorded 7303 TVTs. Next show in the hierarchy is Jamai Raja that closed the weke with 6899 TVTs.

At No. 8 is Sab TV'sTaarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma with 6822 TVTs. At No. 9 is Colors' Udaan as channel's other show Meri Ashiqui Tumse Hi recorded 6486 TVTs and settled at the tenth spot.
