ASCI upholds 82 out of 148 complaints in June

Maximum violations were recorded in the personal and healthcare and education categories.

The Advertising Standards Council of India's (ASCI) Consumer Complaints Council (CCC), a self-regulatory industry body, upheld 82 out of 148 advertisements in June 2015.

Out of the 82 advertisements against which complaints were upheld, 26 belonged to Personal and Healthcare category, followed by 22 complaints in the Education category, while nine ads were found to be misleading in the Food and Beverages category. Seven advertisements were found to be objectionable in the Media and Entertainment category, whereas 18 advertisements were found to be objectionable in the Others category.

In the Personal and Healthcare segment, the defaulters include L'Oreal India (Garnier Pure Active Neem + Tulsi High Foaming Face Wash), Lotus Herbals (Lotus Herbals Youth RX), Fortis Healthcare and Vicco Laboratories (Vicco Turmeric Face Wash), among others.

Career Launcher, CLAT Possible and Amity University were found to be violating ASCI's code in the Education category, among others. Advertisements from Heinz India (Complan), Pernod Ricard India (Seagram) were found to be misleading in the Food and Beverages category.

In the Media and Entertainment category, advertisements from TV18 Broadcast (CNBC), Sarthak TV and Living Media (India Today) were found to be carrying unsubstantiated claims, whereas the defaulters in the Others category include names such as BSNL, Uber, Casa Grande and Jasper Infotech.
