For the premiere of the movie, Star Gold launched its 4K service, a first for an Indian film.

For the world television premiere of the Salman Khan-starrer 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', Star India network's movie channel Star Gold launched the 4K service. Star India has earlier showcased the ICC Cricket World Cup matches in Ultra HD. The Star Gold 4K service, especially delivered for the film premiere, was to be available for two days, October 10 and 11, on Tata Sky, Videocon and Airtel platforms.

As a build-up to the 4K premiere, the channel aired specially created promos and short-format content videos in the same service. The content was delivered in the same manner as Video On Demand content housed by various DTH operators.

The 4K technology

Interchangeably known as UHD (Ultra-High Definition), 4K is a term that encompasses visual resolution technology that offers many more pixels than regular HDTV. 4K display has to comprise at least 3,840 pixels (horizontal) x 2,160 pixels (vertical) of resolution, where the horizontal can go above 4,000 pixels.

This puts it on the top of the current graph of digital resolutions, followed by full HD at 1080 and HD at 720. 4K-ready TV monitors have been around since 2013 and 4K resolution film and photo cameras have reportedly been in use commercially since 2012. The James Cameron film 'Avatar' was known to have been shot in 4K resolution.
