Former Discovery Networks hand Rahul Johri joins BCCI as CEO

He resigned as executive vice-president and general manager, Discovery South Asia, in February this year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the appointment of Rahul Johri as chief executive officer, effective June 1.

Based in Mumbai, he will be responsible for the BCCI's operations, stakeholder management and for building strategies to promote the sport.

BCCI president Shashank Manohar says, "We are pleased to have Rahul with us and are sure his vast experience and knowledge will benefit the board. His vision, guidance and support will contribute towards the successful working of the BCCI."

About the appointment, BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur adds, "Over the past year, we have undertaken various initiatives aimed (at) transforming BCCI..." adding that this is one such.

Says Johri himself, "I am honored at the opportunity to serve millions of Indian cricket fans. It will be my endeavour to contribute to Indian cricket. I am thankful to the president and honorary secretary of the BCCI for bestowing such faith in me. I look forward to everyone's support to fulfill this tremendous responsibility."

Johri has over 20 years of experience in the media industry. He was associated with Discovery Networks for 15 years, of which the last eight were spent leading the group's South Asia operations.
