Hotstar announces new subscription plans

The nine months plan will cost one Rs 1197 while the 3 and 6 months plans are priced at Rs 498 and Rs 894 respectively.

Star India’s video-on-demand (VOD) platform Hotstar has rolled out three new subscription plans, which offers it customers an option to subscribe for longer periods. The Ajit Mohan-led streaming platform only had a monthly recurring plan until now.

The monthly recurring (Rs 199) plan offered one month free subscription to new users. This plan can be availed only by using Credit Cards and PayTM. If paid via Credit Card, a token money of Rs 5 is charged which is auto-refunded within 7-10 working days. If paid by PayTM wallet, Rs 199 is deducted upfront and the user gets validity of 60 days on the Premium Membership.

The new plans are as follows:

(1 Month Pass – Rs 199): No Free Trial; No Recurring charges; No Refund

(3 months - Rs 498): No Free Trial; No Recurring charges; No Refund

(6 months - Rs 894): No Free Trial; No Recurring charges; No Refund

(9 months - Rs 1197): No Free Trial; No Recurring charges; No Refund

In India the subscription-based VOD platforms are increasing in numbers. Not only Hotstar, but other players in the ecosystem are also experimenting with their subscription plans. Recently, Amazon Prime upped its yearly subscription fee from Rs 499 to 999.

Rs 500 for the ‘basic subscription’ (Single Screen), Rs 650 for ‘standard subscription’ (two screens + HD) and Rs 800 for Premier subscription (4 screens + Ultra HD)
