Microsoft No 1 on Cirrus 100

Microsoft topples Maruti off the Top Spot, Idea Cellular rises on Cirrus 100

The period October 25 to November 21 saw Microsoft become the No 1 company on the Cirrus Image Index, after the highly publicised Bill Gates visit to India. Cirrus, a service from agencyfaqs! that monitors the image (positive coverage minus negative coverage) of over 1,100 companies in the media, saw Microsoft push Maruti off the top spot, relegating it to No 6. Reliance Industries at No 2 and Infosys at No 3 followed the IT major.

Idea Cellular also did very well on the Cirrus Image Index during this period, rising 30 ranks on the index. Idea, which had launched its services in Delhi last month, received wide coverage for the event, helping it rise to No 66 on Cirrus 100 (index of the Top 100 companies in terms of image).

The telecom companies on Cirrus 100 performed badly on the whole, with the exception of Idea Cellular. Nokia, Bharti Telesonic, Bharti Televentures, VSNL and Tata Teleservices all slipped on the index during this period. Bharti Cellular and MTNL did however, register moderate gains while BSNL stayed put at No 5.

Cirrus 100 also saw six new entrants this month - Doordarshan, LML, Jet Airways, Reliance Infocomm, United Breweries and Corporation Bank.

Other companies that fared badly on Cirrus 100 this month include HCL Technologies, BSES, Air Sahara, Pepsi, Grasim Industries and Tata Power. Amongst companies that performed well on Cirrus 100 are Sahara India Media, Punjab National Bank and SAIL.
