Seven Indian agencies make it to Clio 2003 shortlist

Publicis Ambience, O&M, Saatchi, Rediffusion, Leo Burnett, McCann and Lemon are the Indian agencies that have won Finalist nominations this year

Publicis Ambience, O&M India, Saatchi & Saatchi India, Rediffusion-DY&R, Leo Burnett India, McCann-Erickson India and Lemon are the seven Indian agencies to have won Finalist nominations at this year's Clio Awards, which are being given away in Miami Beach, Florida, later this month. Thirteen entries from these seven agencies have made it to the shortlist stage, with Ambience accounting for four entries, O&M accounting for three and Saatchi scoring twice. Rediff, Burnett, McCann and Lemon have one shortlist apiece.

The entries from Ambience that have made it to the Finalist grade are the 'medicine' commercial for Delhi-based NGO, Snehi (in the Public Service category), a print ad ('Elizabeth') and a poster ('Lincoln') for Western Union Money Transfer (in the Banking/Financial category), and the 'fridge' poster for Sil Red Chili Sauce (in the Foods category). While the Snehi spot is the work of Elsie Nanji, B Raghu, Manish Bhatt and Prachi Rashmi, the ads for Western Union Money Transfer have been created by Nanji, KB Vinod and Prasanna Sankhe. The Sil poster is the creation of Nanji, Raghu and Bhatt.

O&M's entries include the 'album' print ad for M-Seal (in the Home Products category), and the 'tightrope' and 'Wall of Death' posters for Fevicol (also in the Home Products category). The M-Seal ad is a product of Piyush Pandey, Manmohan Anchan and Vivekanand Pai, while credits for the Fevicol ads go to Abhijit Awasthi, Piyush Pandey, Arab Iqbal and Shruti Nayak.

The shortlisted entries of Saatchi include the 'clips/clothesline' hoarding for Ariel (in the Home Products category) and the 'two graves' hoarding for the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research (in the Public Service category). While Ramesh Ramanathan, Sean Colaco, Kalpesh Patankar and Makarand Patil have created the former, the latter is the work of Ramanathan, Vinod Lal Heera Eshwer and Dinesh TP. Incidentally, as per information provided by Saatchi, the Ariel hoarding has already bagged a Clio 'Statue'. Details on this are awaited.

Rediffusion has won its Clio nomination for a radio spot for Colgate Fresh Energy Gel (in the Toiletries/Pharmaceuticals category). The spot, titled 'newsreader', has been scripted by Prashant Godbole, Zarvan Patel and Ruchi Sharma, while the voice credit goes to Chetan Shashital. Leo Burnett's nomination is for the 'save the tiger' commercial for Sanctuary Magazine and Britannia. Agnello Dias, Vikram Gaikwad and Kainaz Billimoria have scripted this ad.

Coca-Cola continues to bring great joy to McCann India. For the 'barbershop' ad for Coke, created by Prasoon Joshi and Akshay Khapnadak, is McCann India's Clio nomination (in the Beverages/Non-alcoholic category) this year. Rounding off the list from India is a print entry (in the Retail Food category) from Lemon - the 'python' ad for the Vegetarian Food Festival at Culture Curry. The nominated ad is Ravi Deshpande's creation.

With 13 entries from India in the shortlist, there is palpable excitement in agency circles with regards to the eventual outcome, especially considering Saatchi has already picked up a Statue this year. Considering there were 13 shortlisted Indian entries at last year's Clio Awards as well (eventually though, only O&M won a bronze Statue - for the 'Second-hand smoke' poster entry), everyone is hoping for an improved performance this year. © 2003 agencyfaqs!
