Gita Ram succeeds Mona Jain (who is now with GlaxoSmithkline, as general manager, media) as the head of the Delhi operations at Optimum Media Solutions (OMS). "Since, Delhi is an extremely important operation, the challenge is to double the business in the next three years," says Sandeep Vij, president, OMS. For the record, OMS' Delhi operation is estimated to be over Rs 200 crore.
Growing the Delhi branch at this pace is not an easy task. But Gita Ram is unfazed. She says, "This is a challenge I am really excited about." For the record, Gita Ram was working as general manager at Carat before moving to OMS. So what made Ram take up this new role at OMS? "I have worked in the Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai markets. Delhi is a growing market; so when I got this offer, I told myself why not?"
Ram began her career in 1989 with O&M, Bangalore, as assistant media planner. During here tenure at O&M, she worked with clients like Hindustan Lever, McDowell's, Britannia, Titan and United Breweries. In 1993 she tried her hand at research and joined Bangalore-based market research company Quantum Market Research.
In a couple of years' time, the world of advertising beckoned her, and she was back in O&M, Chennai, in 1995. The very next year, however, she jumped ship and joined Grey Worldwide, where she handled the media business for Mumbai and Bangalore. At Grey, Ram worked on high profile clients such as Marico, Johnson & Johnson and Kotak Mahindra. she joined Carat, Mumbai, in 2001 as the senior business director. In April this year, Ram was promoted to the post of general manager.
