Besides some changes in its looks, the Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 comes with a higher engine output and is priced at Rs 16.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

At a press meet in Delhi yesterday, carmaker Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) announced the launch of an upgraded version of its luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) - the new Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7. Besides some changes in its looks, the Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 comes with a higher engine output and is priced at Rs 16.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The price is Rs 21,000 more than the existing price of Grand Vitara XL-7.

Like the earlier version, the new Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 will be completely imported from Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Japan. SMC started production of the new Grand Vitara in June 2003, and it is being launched across the world now.

The earlier version of the Grand Vitara had a maximum power output of 154 bhp (at 6,000 rpm). In the new version, the maximum power output has increased to 166 bhp (at 6,000 rpm), making it the most powerful among all SUVs in India, besides having an engine capacity of 2.7 litre.

Speaking at the launch event, K Saito, director, marketing and sales, MUL, said, "The Grand Vitara XL-7 has been received very well by Indian customers and we are now delighted to present the latest, more powerful version of the vehicle developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation." © 2003 agencyfaqs!
