With all and sundry linking their fortunes to Net-based ventures, it was merely a question of time before the Jasubhai Group of Companies came up with an Internet initiative of their own. Now it has, with the announcement of the formation of Jasubhai Interactive, a new company that will focus on technology media initiatives on the Internet.

The US $50-million Jasubhai Group has indicated that though an Internet company, Jasubhai Interactive will draw its lessons from the company's experience in the technology print media - Jasubhai Digital Media Group (JDM), a Jasubhai Group company, publishes IT magazines such as CHIP, Computer Reseller News and Network Computing.

According to a company press release, Jasubhai Interactive's vision is "to be a dominant e-business in the field of IT-related, content-based products and services delivered through the Internet to a global audience". The company will use content as its fundamental driver, to create segmented vertical portals to serve various IT communities, the release claimed.

Apart from leveraging the Group's print media experience, Jasubhai Interactive will also benefit from JDM's association with Ziff-Davis, a global leader in IT media. JDM and Ziff-Davis recently launched Computer Gaming World, India's first, and the world's largest gaming magazine. Ziff-Davis also owns the world's largest IT content website, ZDNet.com. Incidentally, one of the plans that feature high on Jasubhai Interactive's priority list includes launching ZDNet.com's Indian version - www.ZDNetIndia.com.

Commenting on the reason behind the launch of Jasubhai Interactive, Jasu Shah, chairman and managing director, the Jasubhai Group, says, "Having been the source of the most reliable information and knowledge in print, we decided it was time to move on to the Internet, where the Indian media is slowly but surely headed at the moment. The onus was upon us to cater to that ever-growing section of our audience who do most of their information hunting on the Net."

Voicing the company's objective, Shah adds, "We hope to be able to put in place excellent products in terms of content and functionality for the burgeoning community of Net-users in India."
