Ogilvy's Mid Day calendar keeps date with Pencil

O&M India's Mumbai office has picked up a silver Pencil at the One Show 2004 awards for its Mid Day calendar entry in the Design category. The Mid Day calendar was one of the five entries from Ogilvy India that had made it to the Finalist stage at this year's One Show awards. It may be recalled that a total of 21 entries from 11 Indian agencies were shortlisted for Pencils this year, and in the final tally, India has won two Pencils - a silver and a bronze - courtesy O&M and rmg david.

The award-winning Mid Day calendar is the creation of Art Director Vijay Sawant, supported by Venkatagiri Rao, Vishlesh Deshmukh, Pradeep Yeragi, Nilay Moonje and Meera Welankar. Piyush Pandey (executive chairman & national creative director, O&M India) and Abhijit Avasthi (senior creative director, O&M) are the creative directors on the calendar, which has grown into being something of a ‘collector's item' in Mumbai. Speaking about the win, Pandey says, "A silver Pencil is simply fantastic, and I am very happy and proud for the youngsters who have done the work. The brilliantly art-directed calendar calls for painstaking work and patience, and I think this Pencil is a reward for the resilience and determination that the youngsters have show. It's a lesson that the entire agency can learn from."

This Pencil, incidentally, is the second that O&M India has won in three years. Back in 2002, the agency claimed a silver Pencil for the ‘Second-hand smoke' ad, and the same year, rmg david brought back a silver for the ‘Gandhi' film for Essar. While last year, Saatchi India won a silver trophy for a poster entry for The Terry Fox Foundation, this year, siblings O&M and rmg - who appear to have begun hunting in pairs - have once again ensured a place for India in the One Show winners list. © 2004 agencyfaqs!
