In a significant development, Sai Nagesh, head of the LG business at GroupM, has put in his papers. The veteran media professional, who was given charge of the account on March 29, 2004, declined to be drawn into a conversation about his resignation. So was Andre Nair, chief executive, GroupM, who offered a simple "No comment," when contacted by agencyfaqs!. Sources close to this website, however, indicate that Nagesh has indeed called it quits, although the reasons for his departure could not be ascertained. Nagesh is currently serving his notice period.
A senior member of the management team at GroupM, Nagesh was director, marketing and corporate affairs, prior to taking up the role of head of GroupM - Team LG. A hardcore media planner, Nagesh has 18 years of planning experience behind him, having done time at agencies such as Lintas (now Lowe), Mudra Communications, FCB-Ulka, Contract Advertising and MAA Bozell. He set up the Maximize (now Maxus) office in Mumbai when GroupM, which was then WPP Marketing Communications, was formed in January 2002.
Exhibiting a flair for organizing events, he was responsible for the multi-city launch of GroupM in 2002, which revolved around the theme of partnership. As director, marketing and corporate affairs (which was a brief digression from his mainstay of media planning), Nagesh was involved in the image building and management of GroupM, apart from mainline marketing. He took up this role in May 2003, and was based in Mumbai. Subsequently, LG beckoned, and he moved to Delhi to take charge of the business.
Though it is unclear where Nagesh is headed, sources indicate that he is actively exploring the idea of moving to the other side of media - the media owner's side. Possible areas could be television and print. But for now, it is adios GroupM for Nagesh © 2004 agencyfaqs!
