Five pieces of communication created by Design Sutra - the design division of Contract Advertising - have been shortlisted for this year's Graphis Design Annual, the annual competition organized by Graphis, a premier international journal on visual communication. Design Sutra's pre-selected entries for the 2005 Graphis Design Annual comprise an Enigma Menu (for the nightclub at the JW Marriott Hotel, Juhu), the Wine Menu for the Velvet Lounge (at Renaissance Hotel, Powai), the Food Menu for the Velvet Lounge (at the Renaissance Hotel, Powai), the Wine Menu for the JW Marriott Hotel, Juhu, and an Invite for Valentine Night at the JW Marriott Hotel, Juhu.

Graphis magazine, for the record, was first published by Graphis Press in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1944, and covers design and graphic communication worldwide. The Graphis Annual is one of the most popular Graphis books among design and creative professionals worldwide, and showcases more than 300 of the year's most outstanding designs from around the globe.

Speaking about the agency's shortlisted entries, Rajiv Sabnis, senior vice-president, Contract Advertising, says, "We have received a message from Graphis, addressed to Hemant Sapre, associate vice-president and creative head of Design Sutra, informing us about the shortlisted entries. All the entries are for the JW Marriott Hotel, Juhu, Mumbai, and the Renaissance Hotel, Powai, Mumbai. All five entries have been shortlisted in the Design category. The award winners for the 2005 Graphis Design Annual will be announced shortly."

This is, incidentally, the first time that Design Sutra has had the honour of seeing its work being shortlisted for the Graphis Annual. "Our Design Sutra Team of is over the moon with this news," says an elated Sabnis. "So are we at Contract. We believe that Design Sutra has been delivering design solutions that are at par with international standards for clients like JW Marriott, Renaissance, Cadbury, Asian Paints and Shoppers' Stop, to name a few. The Graphis shortlist is a global recognition of our consistent efforts."

Sabnis also makes it a point to include Design Sutra's clients in the outfit's achievement. "This has also been possible because clients have believed in our ability to add value in the area of Design and Identity," he says. "We are especially grateful to the marketing team at JW Marriott and Renaissance comprising of John Toomey, Bart Buiring, Parinita Dham Gawri and Lianne Braganza, who have consistently encouraged us to produce outstanding design work." © 2004 agencyfaqs!
