Good show by team India at the festival

McCann-Erickson has three more agencies to take a bow with - Mudra Communications, Bates India and Chennai-based creative boutique 1pointsize.

Mudra had won 11 nominations at the NY Fest; one of which has fetched the agency a Bronze World Medal. This is for the winning entry 'Polio Ladder' created for Pahel, Dainik Jagran's social cell. The team that has worked on the campaign include Amitava Sengupta, ex-creative director, Sandeep Basu, associate creative director and Saurabh Dasgupta, associate creative director.

As for the other 10 nominations, we have got word from the organisers that the final announcements will take place in a couple of weeks.

Kapil Dhawan, associate creative director, Mudra DDB Needham, mentioned that since not all the awards have been announced, there is hope for more.

Meanwhile, the Chennai-based creative shop 1pointsize that had picked up three nominations at the 2004 New York Festivals - one in apparel print, and two in public service print - has also bagged a bronze medal.

The winning entry was for the Gulf War ad for the brand Stori. Reacting to the news, Sharad Haksar, head, 1pointsize, says, "We are really happy we've opened our international tally this year. A bronze is not a small achievement considering the stiff competition. Hopefully, we'll pick many more next year. With this metal, 1pointsize has a haul of 20 metals in just two years."

Bates India, that had just one finalist nomination successfully converted it into a silver.

The agency has been awarded the medal for the print ad of mosquito repellent brand, Knightqueen

While this year, the agency has won a silver, it had won finalist nominations during the previous two years - in 2003, for Dabur Lal Dant Manjan print campaign, and in 2002, for an AIDS Public Service print ad. .

Radharani Mitra, executive creative director, Bates India, who feels great about the win gives the credit to her team. "Ashish Rehi (art supervisor), Vishal Chemjong (senior copywriter), Ashish Marwah (brand director) and Ruchi Sood (senior brand manager) have done a great job and of course, our client really supports good work and without them, we couldn't have done it."

Canco Advertising, on the other hand, has struck gold at the NY Fest. It has won a Gold Midas Award at the New York Festival's Midas Awards that honours the Best in Financial Services Communications Worldwide. The winning entry - a press advertisement titled ‘Tiger Claws' - was created for HDFC Ltd. While the copy credits for this advertisement go to Neelam Lakhani, the art direction was by Dhananjay Khotpal.

Entries for the Midas Awards 2004 were received from 34 countries worldwide. A total of 139 entries made it to the short list of Finalists for the Midas Awards of the New York Festivals, rated amongst the top 5 international advertising awards. Of these, only 19 entries won Gold and 15 won Silver. Judging was conducted in England, Germany, Spain, Mexico and the U.S.

Sharing the news of winning the Gold Midas Award at the NY Fest, Ramesh Narayan, managing director, Canco Advertising, says, "We normally do not send our work for awards. This being our 20th year, we decided to enter some of our work done by us in the public service domain for this award. I am obviously quite delighted to strike Gold in our first foray."
