Trivandrum, September 15, 2009

‘Sruthilayam’, Amrita TV’s Indian classical music show, pays obeisance to the Navarathri festival, with an exclusive Devi Keerthanangal series which befits the grand occasion of Durga Pooja.

The Navarathri Sangeetholsavam, will feature the Navavarna Krithis of the renowned Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar for the first time in television.

The 11-episoded special musical series will be shown in a straight stretch for 11 consecutive days from Sept 17-28 at 8.30 in the morning everyday. Though many famous Carnatic music maestros have composed the Navavarna Krithis, the 11 piece set of Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar based on the Sri Chakra, is considered to be the cream of the crop. Muthuswamy Dikshitar who was accomplished in all aspects of Sri Vidya Upasana illustrated in each of these nine kritis, the details of each avarana of the Sri Chakra.

The Kamalamba Navavarna Kritis of Sri Muthuswami, which are elaborate compositions in praise of the Goddess Kamalamba, are some of the most famous keertanas of the Carnatic school of Classical Music.

The words & notations of each keerthana is so complex, it requires years of training to render them to perfection.

Composed of lyrics that revolve around the mystic symbolism of the advaitha tradition and incorporating elements of tantric rituals, these keerthans, are believed to have great spiritual & healing powers.

The entire set consisiting of the dhyanam(invocation) the nine avaranas and the mangalam - a total of 11 pieces - will be rendered from the 17th of September by established & upcoming stars of Carnatic music such as Mathangi Sathyamoorthy, Sreevalsan J Menon, Chertala Renganatha Sharma etc.
