Company release, August 23, 2004
Heralding a new dawn in Indian jewellery, Tanishq announced the unveiling of the Tanishq Aarka collection of 22 k gold jewellery for the contemporary Indian woman. Aarka, meaning 'Sun', draws inspiration from the cycles of life on a solar wheel. Every piece in the Tanishq Aarka collection is symbolic of the Suns motion, dynamism, energy and most of all, captures the passing of time, without altering the essence of these life forces.
The Tanishq Aarka collection has been designed and created for the Indian woman who balances life between her contemporary outlook and the traditional background that she has grown up with. The collection strives to bring freshness to gold jewellery with the focus on achieving that balance, in the true spirit of the Indian woman.
The stunning collection was showcased through an evocative fashion show, where leading fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee created an exclusive selection of high fashion garments inspired by the Tanishq Aarka collection.
The Tanishq Aarka collection is a blend of the ethnic with the contemporary - the traditional with the fashionable, and all of it in pure 22 kt gold, in keeping with the Indian penchant for all things pure. The collection highlights the cyclic nature of the suns journey through the craftsmanship. The plain and twisted wirework epitomizes Sun's rays seen as a linking similarity all through the jewellery. Half circles facing each other depict the spread of light, warmth and energy onto life. Warm enamel colours of ruby, rust orange and amethyst stones are played around with the colours of sunrise and sunset.
"Since its inception, Tanishq has strived to understand the Indian woman in all her forms and representations. This collection draws on this understanding and the creations, inspired by the sun, reflects the true nature of this contemporary woman," said Mr. Harish Bhat, COO, Tanishq.
Sabyasachi expressed, My brand and Tanishq has always celebrated Indian sensibilities and have looked at contemporarising our past heritage.... and since clothes and jewellery go hand in hand co-branding with Tanishq Aarka was a very natural process....
Having graduated from NIFT Kolkata, Sabyasachi started his eponymous label and it has grown as one of the popular designer brands in the country today. Innovative texturing, eclectic blending of silhouettes, patchwork, colours and surface ornamentation is what make his garment distinct from the rest. He also has several international achievements to his credit, which includes being the grand winner award at the Mercedes New Asia Fashion Week in Singapore.
Tanishq, Indias only national jeweller offers gold and gem-set jewellery (in 22 and 18 carat gold) in over 6000 traditional, western and fusion looks. The jewellery is manufactured in a fully integrated manufacturing plant with state-of-the-art equipment. The Tanishq retail chain currently includes 69 exclusive boutiques in 54 cities, making it Indias first and largest jewellery retail store chain.
