Come February 2010, India will witness one of the most exciting & inspirational sports event, The Triathlon. A ceremonial announcement was made by Mr. M.S. Shastri, Deputy President- India Triathlon Federation, and Mr. Chandradev Bhagat, CEO of Grey Matter Entertainment, promoters of the event. This event is also being supported by the Goa Olympic Association. Other well-known celebrities like Sanjay Manjrekar, Milind Soman, Gaurav Kapoor and Raghu were also present to lend their support.

Triathlon- a multi-sport endurance event consisting of swimming, cycling, and running is all set to strengthen its roots in India through this mega event. To be held on February 14, 2010, India International Triathlon will give participants a chance to compete through some of the most beautiful and scenic spots of Goa like Fort Aguada, Candolim beach, Charpora River, Arambol Hills as well as the Siolim & Calangute Church. The event will see some of the world's most renowned tri-athletes competing for the prestigious title.
The India International Triathlon is being conducted under the aegis of the Indian Triathlon Federation and powered by the Goa Olympic Association. This association will undoubtedly inspire Indian athletes and first time enthusiasts to participate and experience this exciting sport. With Goa chosen as the ideal location to host the Triathlon, the race will coincide with the popular annual Goa Carnival, lending an additional excitement to the International Triathlon.
Mr. M.S. Shastri, Deputy President, India Triathlon Federation said, "One of the Federation's long term goals is establishing India as a leading Triathlon Nation in Asia. We are excited that Grey Matter has taken this step to promote this exciting sport in India. We are eager to extend all our support and experience to ensure that this initiative is a strong success. I am also pleased to note that the event will be broadcast both nationally & internationally which will undoubtedly be a big factor in promoting the sport and establishing India as a Triathlon Destination."
Commenting on the event, Mr. Subhash Shirodkar, President, Goa Olympic Association said, "We are always encouraging sports events in Goa and propagating a healthy society. We wish the event all success and assure you of our full and complete support."
‘India International Triathlon 2010' offers categories that are as much for the enthusiastic first-timers ready to take on a new challenge, as they for the international and domestic champions. This event while offering the Olympic Distance Race (1.5km swim/ 40 km bike/10 km run) will also offer a more extreme destination race of 1.5k swim/60k cycle/11k run. For others who wish to compete in less extreme forms –there is a shorter sprint distance (½ k swim/20k cycle/5 k run) and duathlon (2.5k run/20 cycle/2.5 k run). Apart from these, there are several introductory duathlon races (in age groups of 8-14 yrs) to get the kids excited as well as 5-km Fun Run for everyone to enjoy. For the serious tri-athlete – there are 18 qualifying slots for the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship to be held on Dec. 5, 2010 at Laguna Phuket, Thailand. An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).
Murphy Reinschrieiber, MD – Asia Pacific, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) USA, who has seen the sport explode into the international scene over the last 30 years, commented, "We are excited by the launch of India Triathlon 2010. Speaking on the Goa Triathlon, former cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar said, "The India International Triathlon is huge for Indian sport. It is important for us to gain a greater appreciation of sporting events, other than cricket. The Triathlon gives aspiring Indian athletes an avenue to participate in one of the fastest growing outdoor sports in the world."
Model and actor, Milind Soman said, "The Triathlon gives Indians an opportunity to participate in an outdoor athletic event. Physical exercise in our daily routine is important, and a sporting activity of this scale is a great platform. I am really looking forward to the Triathlon and expect some of our future Indian tri-athletes to get great exposure through this event."
Popular television host Raghu from the MTV Roadies fame said, "The Triathlon is a very stimulating sport and am very happy that a sport of such scale can take place in our country. I'm eagerly looking forward to it."
