AFPPA appoints Rajiv Dhar as Secretary General

The Aseptic Food Processing & Packaging Industry Association of India today announced the appointment of Mr. Rajiv Dhar as Secretary General. In his capacity as the Secretary General, Mr. Dhar will be responsible to take a lead on promoting safe and sustainable packaging and food processing, on behalf of the industry. AFPPA's objectives are primarily to increase awareness amongst key stakeholders about aseptic technology and its many benefits particularly relevant to India, and to safeguard the interests of the aseptic food processing and packaging industry.

Mr. Dhar's mandate as Secretary General is to voice AFPPA's intent and suggestions to key stakeholders including the government, policy makers, media, NGOs and the end consumer, on the benefits of aseptic technology. Mr. Dhar will closely work with the members i.e. the industry to actively address issues pertaining to food processing and packaging that includes an number of aspects falling under, logistics, transportation, sustainability, health and safety.

According to Mr. Dhar, "The Aseptic Food Processing and Packaging Industry Association will serve as the industry's voice and the key link between the Government and other stakeholders. AFPPA is the right platform where I find an opportunity to contribute to the elevated concerns on food safety, consumer wellness and environment sustainability."

An expert on packaging of materials, Rajiv's career included diverse work experience with both Government and the private sector. He was commissioned as an Indian Air Force officer at a very young age and served in the field of Logistics, operations, engineering and general management. Continuing with this experience and knowledge in applied sciences, engineering and creativity, he laterally shifted to the Packaging Industry where he combined his skills in setting up a Flexo Printing and Manufacturing Unit as General Manager (Works) and later headed the Flexible Packaging Division for Rollatainers Ltd. Director IIP in the beginning of Y 2001. After a long stint at IIP, during Oct 2009 he opted for the voluntary retirement.

Rajiv is a graduate Mechanical engineer with Master's degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore. He has undergone specialized training in India and overseas in Engineering, & Management including Printing and Packaging.

Additionally, Rajiv is the scientific panel member on Food Standards and Safety Authority of India.
