Hirco supports MSSI to create awareness of Multiple Sclerosis

HIRCO teams up with Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) in its "Chennai Walk Along 2011" campaign here in Chennai. The walkathon was kicked off early in the morning on Sunday, 27 February 2011, in front of Labour Statue at the Marina Beach and culminated at the Gandhi Statue.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life participated in the event, which has become a landmark event to promote awareness of the disease called "Multiple Sclerosis".

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system. Today over 2,000,000 people around the world suffer from MS. Symptoms vary widely and include blurred vision, weak limbs, tingling sensations, unsteadiness and fatigue. For MS persons, it makes life unpredictable.

Mr. Firdose Vandrevala, Chairman and Managing Director of Hirco Developments Pvt. Ltd said, "Multiple Sclerosis can be treated effectively provided it is detected early. General awareness in society of this disease is therefore essential. As a responsible corporate citizen, Hirco supports MSSI in all its endeavours to educate the general public and extend assistance to MS persons."

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) established in 1985 is the only Society in India working for the persons suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) - a chronic progressive incurable disease of the central nervous system, in which simplest everyday tasks can no longer be taken for granted.

Since this crippler disease starts in young adulthood and is not a killer, the patient lives a normal span of life but may slowly become more and more disabled, requiring round-the-clock attention.
