A study by Jeevansathi.com, India's fastest growing matrimonial site shows that professionals in IT- software and Medical have shown preference for partners in the same profession. However, professionals in Banking, Entrepreneurship, HR and Govt Services do not display any inclination towards marriage within the same profession. This data has been derived by analyzing the data of contacts made by men to women on profession based parameters.

Commenting on the research Rohit Manghnani, Business Head, Jeevansathi.com said "Doctors very often seek partners from the same profession as they feel other medicos will understand the odd hour pressures that they face. More importantly that also gives them a chance to set up their own clinic/nursing home at some stage. In case of software professionals they very often need to travel for extended periods out of country. By having a partner in the same field they can do the international travel more easily."

The chart details out the matrimonial preference patterns of professionals within the same profession. This clearly shows that 21% of IT- Software professionals and 20% of Doctors have initiated marriage contacts within their own profession. On the other hand Entrepreneurs, Government servants have shown no special preference for marriage within their own profession.

Details of Profession to profession preferences:

IT Software:

Almost 21% of the contacts by Software Engineers were to girls who are engineers. 8% of IT- Software professionals have initiated contacts with Teachers and 6% of them have initiated with Doctors.

Entrepreneur/ Business Men

Entrepreneurs/ Business have no preferred choice for their lady's profession but seem inclined towards professions such as Teaching and IT- Software with a majority of contacts at 12 % and 10% respectively.

Banking / Insurance

Bankers do not display any particular choice; however show a preference for IT- Software professionals and Teachers. The top 3 preferred profession include IT Software, Teaching and HR professionals with 13%, 10% and 8% of the contacts respectively.

Medical

Doctors prefer Doctors, with over 20% of the men restricting their contacts within the same profession. About 11% doctors contact IT- Software professionals and 10% connect with Teachers.

Government Services

Government Service professionals have a preference for teachers with 14% of the contacts directed to this profession, followed by IT Software professionals at 11%. 8% of them have also expressed interest in marrying Doctors.
