Pearl Academy of Fashion's cultural fest binds students with colorful strings of talent

'Pearl Utsav' – the annual fest and fashion extravaganza of India's leading fashion and design Institute, Pearl Academy of Fashion – was held at Talkatora Stadium. Deepak Seth, chairman of Pearl Academy of Fashion graced the occasion as chief guest, while the guest of honor was Mr Ahluwalia from KJS Ahluwalia Pvt Ltd.

Organised annually by PAF, 'Pearl Utsav' offers ambitious students an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their prowess in music, drama, dance and other performing arts before a discerning audience of industry veterans. For the truly talented students, this serves as a rare opportunity to be instantly noticed by industry icons, thereby jumpstarting their careers, bypassing the traditional timelines of sweat and toil.

The cultural fest commenced with fun-filled activities, including inter-college competitions such as Pandora's Box, Quick Snack Making, Blind-Fold Painting, Cell-phone Photography and Mobile Movie Making. Performing arts presentations by PAF students followed in the evening. Students from Miranda House, Jesus and Mary College, Kirori Mal College, Gargi, Kamla Nehru and other institutions participated in the day-long event. The audience of about 1,500 comprised students, parents and staff.

Dr A K G Nair, group director of Pearl Academy of Fashion, said, "Since its inception, 'Pearl Utsav' has witnessed an exemplary response and this year was no exception. Over the last few years, the event has grown manifold with increasing number of students demonstrating out-of-the-box talent in music, drama, dance and other performing arts. With its inherent and unique legacy, 'Pearl Utsav' is one of the most anticipated cultural fests in town, marked by a thriving confluence of culture, art and competitive spirit."

The evening programme began with the Diya lighting ceremony, followed by the Academy's choir performance. The choir was trained by Shantanu from Shan School of Music. The Band took over the stage with Punjabi rap and a few foot-tapping Hindi songs. The evening saw four dance performances: Retro, Latin, Bollywood and a Finale act. In between these performances, the audience witnessed a show by teachers and a performance by 'Revival Stage', the official band for IPL's Delhi Daredevils team. The drummer of the band is a student of Pearl Academy of Fashion.

'Pearl Utsav' is an annual opportunity for spectators to watch some of the best untapped potential in the industry doing their acts and provides an opportunity for students to exhibit their talent to revered industry veterans.
