The event schedulets in the Month of November 2013 will be spread across the city with events scheduled at Girgaum Chowpatty / Juhu Chowpatty. These events will include musical performances / Sports and culture. Very importantly, this festival will also play a part in promoting the diverse food that make up the gastronomical melting pot, our city is famous for, through a food festival scheduled at each venue.
Commenting on the event Rahul Gomes, Director OMCPL said ‘This event is something that is very much needed for the citizens of our metropolis. While we have fabulous beaches in our city, they are not visitied by our local citizens and rather have become ‘tourist’ sites for outsiders. The intention of this event is not only to get our citizens to visit the beaches but to also showcase the same to the rest of the world. We intend building world class lifeguard facilities inclduing lifeguard towers and facilitites as well as have our lifeguards undertake “training’ under world class instructors to ensure that our citizens feel safe venturing to the beaches as well as take pride in them.’
Supporting this Initiative Shri Sachin Bhau Ahir states – ‘Mumbai’s beaches can be compared to some of the best in the world, all they need is care and support and as Mumbaikars it is our duty and responsibility to do the same. Though all of us have great pride in our city and country, its hetritage and culture, our beaches are always forgotten and are not really taken care off but the citizens themselves. This event is being planned to put our beaches back on the map and get mumbaikars to take pride in them.’
