The KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, the Australian Domestic T20 tournament, starts from December 28, 2009. The growing popularity of KFC Twenty20 Big Bash is evident from the fact that the forthcoming season has drawn some of the world’s best players to compete alongside homegrown Australian talent. Each team, chasing the title of becoming Australia’s domestic KFC Twenty20 Big Bash champion, also stands a chance to share the spoils at the Airtel Champions League Twenty20. STAR Cricket, the 24 hours dedicated Cricket channel, from ESPN STAR Sports will telecast all the 17 matches live for the benefit of Indian audiences.
The list of international stars competing in this year’s KFC Twenty20 Big Bash includes West Indian stars - Chris Gayle (Retravision Warriors), Dwayne Bravo (DEC Victorian Bushrangers) and Kieron Pollard (West End Redbacks). Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir (DEC Victorian Bushrangers) and - Shahid Afridi( West End Redbacks) will also be seen in action. The other contracted international players include Kiwi Captain Daniel Vittori (XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls), England’s Dimitri Mascarenhas (PKF Tasmanian Tigers) and Australia’s star all-rounder Andrew Symonds (XXXX Gold Queensland Bulls), who will be in action alongside Australian stars of the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash such as David Warner, David Hussey, George Bailey and Lee Carseldine.
The DEC Victorian Bushrangers have been the dominant team in the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, playing in each of the four finals – and winning three – since the competition began in 2005-06. They won the first three titles before their winning run was halted last year with the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues winning a thrilling contest at Stadium Australia, Homebush, before a crowd of 17,592.
After the round robin league, the team that finishes on top of the table automatically qualifies for the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash Final on Saturday, January 23. The second and third-placed teams will compete in the preliminary final on Tuesday, January 19, for the right to play off in the final.
