This is one year-opener you sure cannot miss – The Dark Knight. For this is one Hollywood spin on the DC Comics character, Batman, that did three things in one go: it immortalised Heath Ledger – the actor who played the Joker died exactly six days after Dark Knight was released; the arch-villain of the film – the Joker – overshadowed the superhero; it was the first of the Batman films in about 70 years that won an Academy Award (for Best Supporting Actor for Joker’s portrayal by Ledger) for acting.

An absolute stunner of a follow-up to Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight is a potent combination of impeccable execution and brilliant character actor portrayal of The Joker and The Caped Crusader. The fourth-highest grossing film worldwide and the fourth film to earn more than $1 billion worldwide, the movie, altogether, was nominated in six categories, winning two.
Madness is like gravity…..all you need is a push: That’s The Joker for you, not just a thief, not a mobster but a maniac!
Superhero crime thriller film The Dark Knight, the film is part of Nolan's Batman film series and a sequel to 2005's Batman Begins with Christian Bale reprising the lead role. The film follows Bruce Wayne/Batman (Bale), District Attorney Harvey Dent/Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart), Assistant D.A. Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal), and Police Commissioner James Gordon (Gary Oldman) and their struggles and journey in combating the new rising threat of a criminal who goes by the name of the "Joker" played by Heath Ledger (known for 10 Things I Hate About You and Brokeback Mountain) who bagged an Oscar for this most memorable and remarkable last performance of his lifetime!
Nearly 70 years after "Batman" #1 first hit stands, there still is really only one name that perfectly fits the Dark Knight's greatest adversary, a villain alternately portrayed as a harmless prankster and a vicious sociopath, a man who's equal parts deranged, goofy, psychotic and comical: the Joker in The Dark Knight which premieres as the HBO Blockbuster of the Month this month of January.
Catch this extraordinary The Dark Knight on 26th January at 9:00pm, only on HBO.
