Red FM studios were abuzz with melodies on 21st June as they rang in World Music Day amidst a lot of fun and entertainment. Being a station for expression, Red FM ran several on-air contests across the network playing great music and entertaining the listeners.

The contest in Kolkata brought forth talent that was hidden in the lanes and by-lanes of the city. ‘Sur-er Jolsha’ on the popular morning show Nomoshkar Kolkata took off a week in advance, where listeners were asked to register and showcase their musical talent on Red FM. With responses sky rocketing each day, a due screening procedure was put in place where participants were selected on air. For an entire week, three to four participants on a daily basis were filtered and a finalist was selected. Eventually five talented finalists got a chance to sing before noted singer Siddharta (Sidhu) of Cactus on World Music Day.

Participants even called in from far off places like Singur, Subhashgram and Mednipur and also made it to the studios to test their mettle. As five of Kolkata’s very own people battled it out for the coveted title, contestant emerging victorious received a certificate and loads of exciting prizes from Red FM.

Commenting on the initiative, Nisha Narayanan, Senior Vice President Projects & Programming RED 93.5 FM Network said “If music is expression, then who better to understand it than a radio station that personifies expression? On an important occasion such as World Music Day, we had to gift our listeners a special experience and by giving them a chance to go on air with their talent, seemed the perfect way to do so. Music has and always will, heal the world.”

Since music seeks no boundaries and can be created from anything such as a study table, drinking water glass, hands, and just about anything, Red FM Stations in the East - Bhubaneshwar, Jamshedpur, Asansol, Siliguri, Shillong and Gangtok have activated the "World Music Day Ke Mauke Par- Bajaao Apna Music" property. The stations invited people to create music in their way. Special talent flooded the studios as each one went on air to entertain people on the radio waves on World Environment Day. Taking this interesting concept a step forward, fascinating music from different stations was showcased on other stations, thereby eliminating boundaries to music and melodies.
