Bhuvan Lall quits IBF; to set up his own venture

Lall is set to launch his own company in the area of animation, cinema and broadcasting

"Cannes, here I come," a very animated Bhuvan Lall remarked while talking to agencyfaqs! last evening. Lall, executive director, Indian Broadcasting Federation (IBF), resigned yesterday. Confirming the development, he said, "I have already sent out my resignation letter to the members of the IBF." He had conveyed his decision to leave IBF to the board of directors three months ago.

Talking about his stint at IBF, Lall says, "Inspired by many stalwarts of the industry I took charge of the IBF in May 2000. Today, 36 months later, I am happy to see that IBF is an influential and prestigious organisation that has all major broadcasters as members and commands respect from the international entertainment industry."

The excitement in his voice was suggestive of yet another development. Lall is set to launch his own company that would operate in the realm of animation, television, cinema and broadcasting. It was in connection to this development that Lall brought up the topic of the Cannes Film Festival (scheduled for May 14-25). Yes, Cannes is an important event for Lall. "I am going to make some formal announcements about my new company at Cannes," he informed. He was not willing to disclose the name of his start up though. "That information is reserved for Cannes," he said.

For the record, before joining IBF, 37-year-old Lall was the CEO and president of Empire Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based entertainment consulting company advising clients in Hollywood and Bollywood on strategies to succeed in the rapidly changing environment of the entertainment business. Earlier in his career, Lall had launched his first enterprise, a documentary film production company "Dream Factory International". Educated at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA, the Jamia Mass Communication Research Centre and the University of Delhi, Lall's docu-drama "A Ticket To The Future" had won the Desmond Doig Award for the best graduation film in 1988.

With 16 years of experience in the global entertainment industry, Lall has presented and published 37 papers on the entertainment business at conferences and seminars worldwide.

Yesterday, Lall seemed closer to realising his dreams than ever before. His words echo that sentiment. "I will now employ my enterprise in pursuing my long cherished entrepreneurial dreams and watch my family grow under the Californian sun." © 2003 agencyfaqs!
