Tsunami wounds heal, Pepsi recalls surfboard campaign

The cola giant had postponed the release of the same TVC in January this year

The wounds left by the debilitating tsunami of December 2004 are healing. Time – as we all know and it has been six months since the tragedy struck – is a great healer.

Pepsi too realised that the painful memories associated with surf are almost forgotten, and has recently released a TVC, featuring a clutch of footballers including David Beckham cavorting on the surf and sand.

The cola giant had postponed the release of the same TVC in January this year since the devastating earthquake in South East Asia and the ensuing Tsunami had suddenly made surf-based themes highly inappropriate.

Pepsi, of course, had no inkling of disaster when it was shooting the bright sun'n'sand campaign.

A spokesperson for PepsiCo had then commented: “In light of the recent tragedy in Asia, we at PepsiCo International have taken the decision to put our 2005 surf-themed football campaign on hold for the foreseeable future.”
