AAAI’s Goafest all set to redefine Indian ad awards

AAAI expects around 750- 800 creative, media and marketing professionals to attend the festival, which will be spread out over two days. Today is the last day for sending in entries

The Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) is all set to redefine the way Indian advertising awards are hosted and distributed in the country. It is bringing to the table what it calls the ‘Goafest’, a two-day festival for the Indian advertising fraternity, to be held on Uttorda Beach in South Goa, in an area labelled Advillage. The festival will be held on April 29 and 30. Today is the last day for sending in entries for the awards ceremony.

The aim is to move away from the traditional way of holding ad award ceremonies, shifting from a one-evening affair to a two-day festival, complete with seminars, creative exhibitions and, of course, the main awards ceremony (slated for April 30). All the work entered will be exhibited, including the entries that are short-listed.

Advillage is a five-minute walk from the Park Hyatt, Goa. There will be two half-day seminars on the creative aspects of the business of advertising, which will take place at the Park Hyatt in the second half of the day.

The festival has been conceptualised along the lines of the international Cannes Advertising Festival. AAAI expects 750-800 creative, media and marketing professionals to attend the fest.

Arvind Sharma, chairman, AAAI Awards Committee, remarks, “This festival will provide an uncommon learning environment to India’s young creative, marketing and media professionals and a rare opportunity for these people to interact with professionals from abroad.”

At the Advillage, AAAI will erect five special air-conditioned domes, three of which will screen various TVCs continuously. There will also be a radio shack and a cyber café, apart from a central dome, where all the print work will be displayed.

The STAR Network and ‘Hindustan Times’ are the principal sponsors for the event, and Red FM and Xerox are its associate partners. AAAI expects more than 3,000 entries to be submitted, which will then be judged by a panel comprising creative directors from the ad fraternity.

Goa chief minister Pratap Singh Rane is likely to preside over the inaugural seminar on April 29. Praful Patel, Union minister for civil aviation, has been invited to be the chief guest.

AAAI is aiming to have about 750 delegates drawn from agencies, marketing companies, the media and the student community attend the event. It is also ensuring the presence of around 350 under-30 professionals from agencies, advertisers and the media at the festival by offering them a special, all-inclusive price of Rs 4,500 (which includes travel to Goa, two days’ stay in a hotel, entrance to the two seminars and awards night and food, beach sports and entertainment) per person. The idea is to make this an affordable event for all Indian ad folk.
