Hero Honda scouts for an agency for Splendor’s new variant

The size of the business is estimated to be Rs 15 crore

Hero Honda, one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in India, is planning to launch another variant of its sub-brand, Splendor. This will be the third variant under this sub-brand, after Splendor Plus and Super Splendor. While JWT handles the first two brands, besides several other Hero Honda sub-brands such as Glamour, Achiever, CD Dawn, CD Deluxe and Karizma, another agency might handle the new variant.

The automobile major is currently looking for an agency for the new variant. It called for a pitch some time ago, which saw the participation of all three of its roster agencies, JWT, FCB Ulka and Percept H. FCB Ulka and Percept H each have one Hero Honda brand in their kitty; while FCB Ulka handles Pleasure, Percept H is responsible for Passion Plus.

The entry of a fourth agency can’t be ruled out, as the company might review other agencies. The estimated spend on this brand is Rs 15 crore, and the company plans to concentrate on traditional media such as print, television and outdoor.

The new variant will have a heavier engine than other Splendor variants. Super Splendor comes with a 125 cc engine and Splendor Plus is a 100 cc bike.

A decision is expected in the next few weeks.
