Saregama’s Makkar joins Reliance ADAG

Makkar was associated with Saregama for the last 18 years. At Reliance, he will be responsible for acquiring high quality content in both Indian and global languages

Music recording company Saregama’s chief executive, Kulmeet Makkar, has joined Reliance ADAG’s new music and home entertainment division as chief executive officer on May 2.

Reliance ADAG’s music and home entertainment division will be competing against other active players in the home entertainment space, including T-Series, Shemaroo, Ultra, Eros, Excel Home Entertainment, Saregama, Venus and Moser Baer.

Makkar’s mandate at Reliance will be to adopt a suitable strategy to compete with these rivals and expand the company’s presence in the physical and digital space across India and in overseas markets. He will be responsible for acquiring high quality content for the company, with respect to music and home videos, in both Indian and global languages.

Makkar was associated with Saregama for the last 18 years and has a proven track record in the music business. During his span with Saregama, he was in charge of key responsibilities and was instrumental in creating a successful turnaround for the company in 2002-03.
