Shaikh started his career as a trainee in 1993 with Contract. It was surely unexpected that he would end up working for the agency for more than a decade! In 1995, he was designated senior copywriter. In 2001, he was made creative director. In 2004, he was associate vice-president and creative director when he quit to take up freelance consultancy assignments for Ambience Publicis and Zoom TV. Zoom TV happened when he was already pursuing a short term assignment with Ambience Publicis.

Shaikh has more than 100 national and international awards to his credit, including two Cannes Lions and five finalists. He also has to his credit entries in the D&AD, the One Show, the New York Festivals, and has won the Copywriter of the Year award.

Shaik has featured in the Indian Copy Book as one of the 16 best Indian copywriters of all time. He has been voted one of the 10 most admired creative directors in the country by advertising professionals and clients. The survey was conducted by The Economic Times, the leading business and financial newspaper.

Shaikh has worked on brands such as Philips Audio, Franklin Templeton AMC, Asian Paints, Shoppers Stop, ICICI Bank, Cadbury India, Hindustan Lever, Lovable Lingerie, Live-in Jeans, Mumbai Traffic Police, Warner-Lambert, BBC, Pfizer consumer products, Cancer Patients Aid Association and Kotak Mahindra Primus. He counts the campaigns for Franklin Templeton and Anti-Smoking among his most memorable pieces of work.
