Cheil Worldwide's associate vice-president and creative director Vedobroto Roy has called it a day at the agency. Ending a stint that lasted over three years, Roy is now headed to Law & Kenneth as the executive creative director.

Confirming the development, Roy tells afaqs!, "I have always wanted to be a part of Law & Kenneth and I also wanted to go back to the fast moving consumer goods category. And, what better brand than ITC? I have learnt a lot of things while at Cheil and the other agencies I have worked in, and am looking forward to put my learnings into practice in my new role."

Law & Kenneth handles ITC's personal care brands such as Fiama Di Wills, Vivel Di Wills and Fiama soaps and shampoos among others.

Roy, currently based in New Delhi, will eventually move to Kolkata to work on the account from the agency's branch in the city.

On his appointment, Anil Nair, chief executive officer and managing partner, Law & Kenneth, says, "We are excited to have Roy on board. We have been looking for the right person to take the ITC brands to the next level. These brands are past their launch stage and now require some solid creative thinking. Roy has proved his mettle time and again. He has an amazing sense of strategic work that delivers results for brands."

Roy's new role will see him going back to a category he has earlier worked on extensively. Beginning his career in 1998 with Mudra Delhi as copywriter, he worked on brands such as Samsung (refrigerators and washing machines), Nestle (corporate), NIIT (corporate), and Hindustan Motors (Ambassador).

Moving to Ogilvy Mumbai in 2000, he worked on skincare brands such as Pond's and Lakme, and other FMCG brands such as Huggies and Kotex. He also handled Asian Paints, Mattel and Voltas AC.

During his three-year stint at JWT, where he joined as creative director on Pepsi in 2003, Roy worked on campaigns such as the Arshad Warsi-Amitabh Bachchan 'Boatman' campaign, besides the 'Khufiyapanti' campaign featuring Saif Ali Khan, and the 'Pyas Hai Badi' music video among others.

Roy also re-launched Fido Dido for 7UP in India in 2004.

He did a short stint at Palasa as well, and started his own firm in Mumbai later -- Gang of Designers (GOD) -- before joining Cheil in 2007.

Known particularly for his work on Samsung Mobile at Cheil, Roy helped create the brand Guru and Metro, creating numerous films for the brands. He also worked on Samsung's refrigerators, washing machines and microwave ovens and led the team that did the 'Frrrunch' repositioning for Samsung refrigerators last year.

His awards include being among the finalists at Cannes, One Show and New York Festivals, besides winning at the ABBY's.
