D&AD 2011: Two Indian agencies get nominated, three get in-book status

Ogilvy India and Mudra Communications are the two Indian agencies that will be competing with other globally chosen work for a Pencil; Taproot India, TBWA India and Leo Burnett India have achieved the in-book status this year.

Five Indian agencies will make their presence felt at this year's edition of the D&AD Professional Awards. While Ogilvy India and Mudra Communications have achieved nominations for the 2011 awards, Taproot India, TBWA India and Leo Burnett India have got the prestigious in-book status.

The in-book status allows the entry to be recorded in a list among the best work produced in advertising and design in the year in the D&AD Annual. Entries that have achieved a nomination status, on the other hand, qualify to be judged for the Yellow, or the extremely rare Black Pencils, and stand a chance to be awarded either of them.

Ogilvy India and Mudra Communications have a nomination each in the Illustration for Press and Poster Advertising category.

Ogilvy's nominated entry is the agency's much lauded work for Perfetti Van Melle's Mentos, Sour Marbels (Guillotine/Gun/Snake). Mudra's nominated entry is its campaign for charitable voluntary organisation, Loving Hands Ministries (Dwarf Depression).

Leading the agencies that have achieved the in-book status is Taproot India, with its Aman Ki Asha campaign for The Times of India and the much-awarded Colours of India campaign for Conqueror Papers under the Integrated and Earned Media and Illustration categories, respectively.

Interestingly, the Aman Ki Asha campaign is the first-ever Indian campaign to feature in the Integrated and Earned media category.

"This is quite a singular honour as it is not merely for a single piece of inspired print, poster or television ad, but for a sustained body of work done over more than a year, and spans music concerts, literary festivals, trade meets and of course, advertising -- over 75 pieces in all. It is all the more creditable as even Lead India and Teach India had not managed to cut the grade at the D&AD," says Agnello Dias, co-founder and chief creative officer, Taproot India.

Among the other Indian entries to find places in the D&AD Annual this year is TBWA India's work for Yatra.com (Immigration Stamps) shortlisted in the Graphic Design category and Leo Burnett's campaign for Bajaj Electricals (Pleasure of Mixing) in the Radio Advertising category.

The Pencil winners will be announced on June 16 at the D&AD Awards Night in London.
