In a deal with Indian Music Industry (IMI), Sydus will develop content to form India’s first music marketing digital platform

Nostalgic for some golden music from the 1950s and 1960s? Well, that’s not far from your reach now as the leading Indian Music Industry (IMI) body has struck a deal with the mobile and web streaming media company, Sydus, allowing it access to its entire collection of more than 5,00,000 music tracks over the last 60 years.

The deal will allow users to listen to digital content available on both mobile and web platforms through OnDemand (a downloadable application) as well as a free music service backed by sponsors. “Digital platforms are where the young adult market is today and music marketing is the way to reach them,” says Saumil Nanavati, president of Sydus, in a statement. “With 150 million mobile users and 35 million Internet users, what we are providing to the Indian business community is a way to tap directly into that market and get their message across to the right audience,” he adds.

Tracks in 12 different languages by 139 member record labels, including leaders such as Saregama, Universal, Tips and Sony BMG, will be shared with Sydus. “This is a great leap forward into the digital world for the Indian Music Industry,” adds Subroto Chattopadhyay, chairman of IMI.

With the deal, Sydus will provide IMI content for its digital platform, which allows brands to provide customised music to Indian listeners in a digital package – on the web and on mobile phones. The OnDemand Music Streaming and free-to-consumer content from IMI will be available by the end of 2007.
