Vivek Bahl quits ibibo.com

Bahl joined the social media site as general manager, community marketing in 2007

Vivek Bahl, associate vice-president, marketing, ibibo.com has decided to move on after spending nearly three years in the organization. He joined in 2007, as general manager for community marketing.

He is currently serving his notice period and will spend another two to three weeks at the organisation. Speaking to afaqs!, Bahl says, "Having spent three years at ibibo.com, we have been able to position it as a talent hunt based social network platform. It's a place that gives youngsters the opportunity to showcase their talent, by just uploading their pictures and video. Applications including iFresh Face, iHunk and iFashion Photographer have helped boost the dreams of a large number of youngsters."

He informs that he is considering a few options and will finalise his next destination in a few days. Bahl has 16 years of experience in advertising and marketing. Prior to joining ibibo.com, he was with Cheil Communications as creative director. He worked with Dentsu Communications as creative director. He has handled clients such as Toyota, iMate, Radico Group and Jaypee Greens.

Bahl shares that after completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Polymer Science from the UK, he busied himself with his family business. It was in 1993 that he entered the advertising world, joining Anthem (now TBWA) as a copywriter. After spending four years at the agency, he moved on to Dhar & Hoon. He spent three years there, before joining Grey Worldwide (then Trikaya Grey) in 2000.

He switched over to marketing in 2001, having joined PVR Cinemas, Delhi as head, marketing. He subsequently moved to Times of India as chief manager, brand team, before joining Dentsu Communications in 2005.

Commenting on his experiences of heading creative as well as marketing functions, Bahl says, "Every function or task calls for some element of creativity. Thus, switching roles from creative to marketing and vice-versa always turned out to be an enjoyable experience."

He believes that all that it takes to complete any assignment successfully is awareness towards the requirement of the people concerned, and creative thinking to come up with innovations to fulfill these aspirations.
