Percept D’Mark lines up key events this quarter

The celebrity management, sports and event marketing arm of the Percept Group has the HISA Sports Awards, the Sangeet Awards and dance dramas

Percept D’Mark, Percept’s celebrity management, sports and event marketing arm, is choc-a-bloc with events this season.

A big one, titled ‘Amrapali’, gets rolling during June 25-26 in Mumbai. It is a dance drama, which features actress-cum-politician Jaya Prada in the title role of the legendary courtesan from Vaishali. Mounted on an epic scale, the dance drama has nine set changes, elaborate costumes, choreography, music etc.

Percept D’Mark (PDM) has roped in sponsors such as Airtel, UTI, ONGC and Provogue among others for the show. The dance drama, says Devraj Sanyal, COO, Percept D’Mark, will travel to the metros and minimetros after it opens in Mumbai.

Besides Amrapali, PDM will be involved with another dance drama ‘Bharati’ this season. It is an international musical, produced by a European production house, featuring an Indian cast and crew, which will open in September at the Jerusalem Theatre Festival.

Both dance dramas took about a year-and-a-half in terms of production, and PDM is optimistic about them. “We have focused on packaging, look, feel etc, which has taken these ballets to a new level,” says Sanyal.

Investments in both these projects are huge, though Sanyal declines to divulge details. Tickets to a performance of Amrapali could cost a theatre-goer anywhere between Rs 500-Rs 1,000 per head. Viewers abroad will have to shell out about $30-40.

Apart from these, PDM also has a couple of award shows including the HISA ‘05, which is organised by the Hero Indian Sports Academy, a trust set up by the Hero Group on the lines of the Laureus World Sports Academy, which works to bring up sporting talent, besides supporting sports activities in the country.

Into its third year, the HISA Awards, which will be simulcast on Doordarshan and Sony Entertainment Television, will be held on July 9. Noise levels for HISA ‘05 will be louder as compared to previous years, says Sanyal. “Though telecast on DD and Sony earlier, the awards were low-key over the last two years. This year, action on that front should be more,” he says.

Then, there is the Sangeet Awards in the fag-end of July-early August, which, like the IIFA Awards, is held at an international venue, honouring artistes in the music domain.

“This year, the Sangeet Awards will be held in San Francisco,” says Sanyal. Last year, it was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
